Blotter is a free perfume finder run by Amirul Al-Haziq. This page explains what it stores, where, and how to remove it.
The short version
- You don't need an account, and Blotter never asks for your name or email.
- Your lists stay in your browser unless you turn on Sync.
- There are no ads, analytics or tracking cookies, your data is never sold, and Blotter doesn't use it to train AI.
Stored in your browser
Blotter keeps your saved perfumes, the perfumes you add, your recently viewed perfumes and, if you use Sync, your sync code in your browser's local storage. This stays on your device. To remove it, clear this site's data in your browser.
Stored if you turn on Sync
Sync is optional. When it's on, Blotter stores:
- a scrambled (hashed) copy of your sync code, not the code itself
- your saved perfumes, and the names and notes of perfumes you add, so please don't type personal details into them
- when your synced lists were created and last used
Sync uses one cookie, set only when you turn on Sync or connect a device. It keeps that device connected, and it lasts 30 days, renewing as you use Sync. Blotter stores only a hash of it.
Logs
Serving a page or a Sync request means handling your IP address and browser details. Blotter's hosting providers and its Sync server keep request logs for a limited time, for security and to fix faults.
Blotter handles this data to provide the features you ask for, and because it has a legitimate interest in keeping the site running and secure.
How long it's kept
- Synced lists are deleted after 12 months without use.
- A sync code with nothing saved under it is removed after 7 days.
- A connected device is signed out after 30 days without use.
- Emails you send are kept as long as needed to answer them.
The cleanup runs when someone creates a new sync code, so deletion can happen later than these times. Copies can also remain in a provider's backups for a short while.
Who handles the data
- Vercel Inc. hosts the site.
- Render Services, Inc. runs the Sync server, in Singapore.
- Neon, part of Databricks, stores synced lists, in Singapore.
These providers may handle data outside your country, including in the United States. Links to Fragrantica, perfume houses and shops take you to other sites, where their own privacy policies apply.
Your choices and rights
- To remove your synced lists, go to Sync in the app and choose Delete synced lists. They're removed from Blotter straight away.
- To turn off Sync on one device, choose Disconnect this device.
- Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct or delete your data, to object to how it's used, and to complain to a data protection authority.
Blotter doesn't know who you are, so it can only find your synced lists if you give it your sync code.
Children
Blotter isn't aimed at children under 13 and doesn't knowingly collect their data. It doesn't ask anyone's age.
Changes
If this policy changes, the date at the top changes too.
